Erasmus+ is an exchange programme of the European Union that supports study periods and internships across Europe.
The department actively participates in European exchanges with ERASMUS+ and regularly holds information sessions about studying abroad. Please keep an eye on the noticeboards at the department. Prospective outgoing students should also attend the regular introductory event ("Initial Counselling for Studying Abroad") organised by the International Office (Domstraße 8) to learn about the details from early on.
Advantages of the programme
- Tuition fee waiver at the host university
- Monthly allowance based on country groups (min. EUR 540/month for studies, min. EUR 690/month for internships, depending on the country)
- Can be combined with BAföG for studying abroad
- Administrative support from both the home and host universities
- Recognition of non-assessed coursework governed by the learning agreement
- Support for students who are single parents and students with special needs
- Rights and obligations set out in the Erasmus+ student charter
Duration
You can receive multiple Erasmus+ grants from your 3rd semester onwards. You are entitled to 12 months of mobility (study and/or internship) per study phase (bachelor's/master's/doctorate). For the Diplom and Staatsexamen (State Examination), the total is 24 months. Graduates can also be funded for an internship up to one year after their qualification (minus the months already funded).
Planning
The application/residence procedure is as follows:
- Initial consultation at the International Office
- Information, advice and selection of the host university
- Application and selection at the relevant department. Please note: Applications must be submitted for both the winter AND summer semesters of the following academic year.
- Registration at the host university (from February) by the IO
- (Final) approval of the learning agreement
- Period of study abroad
- Recognition of credits by the departmental subject coordinator upon return
Application
In general, the application consists of a cover letter, a CV in tabular form, a transcript of records, an overview of your course of study, and language certificates. The selection criteria are based on these documents.
For specific details, please refer to the current notices at the department or the announcements under "Current Information". If you have been nominated for an exchange place, your data will be forwarded to the International Office by 31 January. You will then receive further information on the application process at the partner university from the International Office.
Subsequent Nomination
If not all of the available places have been allocated by 31 January, a subsequent nomination process for the remaining places will take place within the subject areas during the summer semester of the respective application period. Information about the timeline and the call for applications will be announced under "Current Information" and on the International Offices webpages.
Extension of Stay
If you wish to extend your stay abroad, please contact the host university first to check if an extension is possible. After that, get in touch with the Erasmus coordinators at the International Office. Please note that extension requests must be submitted to the IO at least 1 month before the end of your planned stay.
Procedure
- Attend an initial consultation at the IO (https://www.uni-greifswald.de/studium/vor-dem-studium/studienorientierung/master-monat-2024/veranstaltungen-des-io/ [de])
- Gather information and advice on recognition of credits and subject relevance within your subject area
- Search and apply for an internship at your own accord
- Submit application for funding to the IO (no later than 2 months before the start of the internship) – Confirmation the student has been accepted for an internship must be provided
Please note: EU institutions, institutions with EU programmes and German diplomatic missions are excluded. These are part-funded alternatively by the Carlo-Schmid Programme of the DAAD.
Guest Lectureships / Further Education and Training
Erasmus+ provides funding for guest lectureships (STA) at European partner universities with which there is an existing Erasmus+ contract in the relevant subject area.
Further Information
Guest lecturers are expected to enhance the European dimension of the host university, complement its teaching programme, and share their expertise with students who cannot or do not wish to study abroad.
Periods of teaching abroad within Europe last between 2 days and 2 months (excluding travel time), with a minimum teaching workload of 8 hours per stay or per week for stays of longer than one week.
Through the Staff Mobility - Staff Training (STT) programme, staff from the University of Greifswald can undertake continuing professional development at an Erasmus+ partner university or external institution.
The minimum requirement is a stay of at least two working days (with up to two additional days for travel). Typically, stays of 1 week are funded (up to a maximum of 2 months).
Selection period: ongoing
Selection criteria: priority is given to first-time stays within the Erasmus+ framework and stays that strengthen partnerships in the subject area and in line with the Internationalisation Strategy (focussing on the Baltic Sea region).
Applications and selections are handled by the International Office in consultation with the relevant departmental coordinator.
