Philosophy Didactics

Didactics of philosophy deals with the question of how philosophy can and should be taught and learnt. According to Tiedemann, three fields of inquiry can be distinguished: As a theoretical-conceptual science, it deals with the questions of what philosophical education is and why pupils should learn philosophy at all; as a methodological-practical discipline, it is dedicated to the development of teaching and learning skills and discusses questions such as lesson planning, media, social forms and content; as an empirical-critical science, it develops empirical procedures for the evaluation of philosophical educational processes and discusses their limits.

In the didactics section, we regularly offer seminars on general didactics of philosophy supplemented by courses on special topics aimed at students studying to become teachers at secondary schools (Gymnasium and Regionale Schule) as well as primary schools. The staff supervise the practical exercises at school and the school internship. We place particular emphasis on a close, reciprocal link between philosophy, didactics and school practice.

Research focuses on the possibilities of philosophising with children and the didactics of argumentation.
